Increasingly, employers in environmental issues require graduates with economics training to understand and tackle environmental issues. This programme combines these two complementary fields, providing you with rigorous economics training as well as environmental social science learning. This is a major/minor programme, with around 75 per cent of this programme in environment, and the remaining 25 per cent in economics. Many staff members from the Department are directly engaged with policy debates, sitting on government panels or being contracted to do analysis for different policy issues. You’ll learn not just academic theory, but why policies issues matter and why they’re relevant. You’re also able to see first-hand the impact LSE research has on the real world. You will acquire a broad range of social scientific skills and knowledge with which to tackle and understand environmental problems. In the second and third year of the programme you will be able to choose from a range of options, including an international field-course, tailoring your studies to your areas of interest.
